Crypto Mining and the Threat to the Future: Why X1 EcoChain Is Needed

Crypto Mining and the Threat to the Future: Why X1 EcoChain Is Needed

Cryptocurrencies have become part of the global economy, giving millions of people access to financial tools that were previously unavailable to them. But behind this digital revolution lies a growing problem: colossal impact on the environment.

The April MDPI report (2025) — “Energy Consumption of Crypto Mining: Consequences and Sustainable Solutions Using Systems Thinking and System Dynamics Analysis” — became one of the most detailed studies in this field. It shows that already in 2023 crypto mining consumed:

·        119.7 million MWh of electricity (≈0.5% of global consumption, like the whole of Argentina),

·        1.859×1⁰⁹ m³ of water,

·        90.6 million tons of CO₂ eq. (≈0.25% of global emissions).

Without serious changes by 2030 all these indicators may increase sixfold. This means: growing pressure on energy systems, water supply disruptions, increased climate risks.

The authors of the study note: already today water consumption in mining is equivalent to what could cover the basic needs of the entire global population that still has no access to clean water.

In other words, the race for cryptocurrencies is turning into a race against a sustainable future.

Error in strategy: Proof-of-Work as a dead end

The main reason for such a load is the Proof-of-Work (PoW) algorithm.

Miners around the world compete in computing power, and energy is spent even on “useless” calculations that have no value outside of block creation.

Result:

·        energy consumption grows exponentially,

·        the Jevons effect appears (the cheaper and more efficient the devices, the more they are used → the load does not decrease),

·        geographical concentration of mining makes networks vulnerable to failures and centralized risks.

Even PoS systems (Proof-of-Stake), which are positioned as a “green alternative,” face the problem of capital concentration and validator centralization.

How to get out of the trap: a systemic solution

MDPI proposes two paths:

·        transition to renewable energy sources,

·        search for new models of consensus and architectures, initially built as energy-efficient.

And here the question arises: are there ready-made solutions?

X1 EcoChain: an alternative path for blockchain

X1 EcoChain offers exactly what the industry lacks: a systemic, technological, and ecological solution.

1.     Energy efficiency:

One X1Node consumes only 3 Wh — less than an LED bulb. This means that even on a global scale the network does not threaten energy systems.

2. DePIN architecture:

Thousands of physical X1Nodes are distributed in 65+ countries worldwide. There is no need for data centers, which means no single points of failure. Real decentralization at the infrastructure level.

3. Proof-of-Nodes:

Blocks are created by trusted validators, which ensures:

·        fast transactions,

·        low fees,

·        minimal load on energy systems.

3. Reducing systemic risks:

Even if one region disconnects from the network, the global operation of the blockchain will not suffer.

Why switching to X1 EcoChain is needed now

The MDPI report leaves no room for illusions: if the cryptocurrency industry continues to develop along the current trajectory, by 2030 we will see a sixfold increase in energy consumption, CO₂ emissions, and water use. This will not be just a “problem of blockchains” — it will become a challenge for global energy, climate, and sustainable development of humanity.

Each year of delay means:

·        growth of the number of data centers and gas power plants,

·        increased competition with energy and water supply for cities,

·        further consolidation of environmentally inefficient technologies.

That is why action is needed not later, but now.

X1 EcoChain shows that another future is possible:

·        a blockchain that does not destroy ecosystems,

·        infrastructure available to everyone without millions for equipment,

·        a network that is decentralized not in words but at the level of physical devices.

Switching to X1 EcoChain is not just a choice in favor of innovative technology. It is a choice in favor of a sustainable future, where the digital revolution no longer conflicts with nature and society.

Exactly today we have the chance to change the direction of blockchain development — so that tomorrow we don’t have to pay for the mistakes of yesterday’s decisions.
